An apron is traditionally a protective garment that covers the front of the body. With the dawning of the 17th century, men were no longer the primary wearers of aprons. Women then began wearing aprons as housemaids in order to keep their few, everyday dresses clean. The uses and styles for aprons developed as women took on greater working roles within and outside of the home. My personal exploration of fabrics has lead me to view aprons as a symbol of feminine strength. With influences from ideas of home, Nana's Aprons is a guide through artist, Megan Patrick's exploration of fabrics. Various artists and local seamstresses who share a connection to comfort and home or use fabric media as a symbol for strength influence my work and can be found through out this site.
